As weather conditions worsen here in South Texas, it’s important to make sure you and your car stay prepared for the road ahead. Before colder temps hit check your battery, ignition systems, lights, brakes, tires, exhaust, windshield wipers, and heating/cooling system to avoid any problems on the road later. Plan your route before leaving: map out the safest way to reach your destination avoiding any bridges as they tend to ice over. Avoid Cruise Control: it’s easy to lose control of your vehicle if you rely on cruise control. Don’t Speed! This goes for any road conditions, but especially when the roads could be icy. Keep a steady pace, don’t drive distracted, and don’t brake or accelerate too fast. Double your distance: Leave a greater following distance between cars to avoid any sudden stops and collisions. Lastly, turn on your headlights: sleet, fog, and rain can make it difficult to see. Keep your headlights on in low light conditions for yours and other drivers’ safety.

Stay Safe!
